Police Log - 12/10/19

DUI
At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 28, officer Michael C. Bailey and Kyle J. Fitzsimmons were on patrol in the area of Warwick Avenue and Sandy Lane when they were flagged down by the male occupant of a white Dodge Durango in the parking lot of Picasso’s Pizza.
The man told the officers that another vehicle, a white Jeep Compass, had backed into his vehicle in the parking lot.
The Jeep was still in the parking lot and the officers made contact with its female operator. Bailey reports detecting the odor of alcohol on the woman’s breath. She is additionally said to have exhibited “watery, bloodshot eyes” and spoken with slurred speech.
The woman is said to have agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which she reportedly failed. After the testing, the woman is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier that night.
Stephanie A. Morro, 36, 132 Third Ave., Apt. 1, Cranston, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, she is said to have refused a chemical breath test.
Morro was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. She was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Just after 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 29, Officer Cody Wild was traveling north on Post Road when he observed a vehicle strike the curb and then cross the double-yellow lines into the southbound lane of travel.
Wild initiated a motor vehicle stop in the area of Post Road and George Street and made contact with the operator. He reports immediately detecting a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from [the operator’s] breath.” The operator is additionally said to have exhibited bloodshot eyes and spoken with mumbled speech.
The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier that night and agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which he reportedly failed.
Justin A. Walkow, 28, 15 Cynthia Drive, North Smithfield, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, he is said to have refused a chemical breath test.
Walkow was later released into the custody of a sober adult and issued a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. He was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test and a laned roadway violation.

At approximately 1:45 a.m. on Dec. 1, officers Joseph DiIorio and Brian Fontaine were conducting a patrol on Interstate 95 north when they observed a silver Ford Escape swerving between lanes and traveling above the 55 mph speed limit.
The officers initiated a motor vehicle stop and DiIorio made contact with the female operator and male passenger. The officer reports detecting a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle, and the operator is said to have exhibited bloodshot and watery eyes.
The operator is said to have acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier that night and agreed to undergo field sobriety testing, which she reportedly failed.
Kara A. Mitola, 23, 21 Country View Lane, North Scituate, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. While at headquarters, she is said to have refused a chemical breath test.
Mitola was later released into the custody of a sober adult with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court on a charge of driving under the influence. She was additionally cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test, speeding and a laned roadway violation.

SHOPLIFTING
Just before 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 30, Officer Jessica L. Masso responded to the Piercing Pagoda location at Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting.
At the scene, the store’s manager told Masso that a man had walked away with a ring while being helped by an employee. The diamond and gold ring was valued at approximately $200.
A review of security camera footage from the mall showed the man leaving the mall and walking toward a vehicle, which appeared to be a black Chevrolet Cruze. The matter was documented.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 3, Officer Ryan E. Shibley responded to the Macy’s location at Warwick Mall for a report of shoplifting.
At the scene, a loss prevention associate told Shibley that a female suspect was in custody. The associate said the suspect had been observed selecting items and concealing them in a plastic Target shopping bag before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay. Four items with a combined value of $163 were recovered after the suspect was detained.
Lyric T. Peterson, 19, 31 Child St., Apt. 2, Warren, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

LARCENY
Shortly before 4 p.m. on Dec. 3, Officer Kyle J. Fitzsimmons responded to an Eagle Run Street home for a report of wheels and tires being stolen from a vehicle.
At the scene, the reporting party told Fitzsimmons that he had parked his vehicle at approximately 4 p.m. on Dec. 2. When he returned at approximately 3 p.m. on Dec. 3, he found its wheels and tires were missing. The passenger-side wheel rotors were resting on the ground, while the front driver’s side was sitting on part of a cinder block and a jack was under the rear driver’s side.
No security camera footage was immediately available. The matter was forwarded to detectives.
