LARCENY

On Aug. 23 at approximately 2:50 p.m. Officer Russell Brown responded to the Walmart on Post Rd. for the report of stolen license plates.

The reporting party said that while he was inside the store both his front and rear license plates were taken from his vehicle.

Video surveillance footage showed a male drive into the parking lot in a black Chevy Impala, get out of his car, and remove both license plates from the victim’s car before driving off. The suspect never entered Walmart. The license plates on the suspect’s car did not match the vehicle when the officer checked them in the system.

A copy of video surveillance was placed in evidence. The value of the plates was $40 total.

On Aug. 27 at approximately 7:30 a.m. Officer Daniel O’Connell responded to the La Quinta Inn for the report of stolen items from a vehicle that was parked outside.

The victim said he left his work truck in the parking lot the previous night, which he thought had locked, and when he came out the next morning a variety of items had been stolen. There was no damage done to the truck, indicating that it hadn’t been secured before he went in.

The stolen items included an iPhone 7 Plus, valued at $600, a Nikon Camera valued at $300, and an LG Bluetooth Headset valued at $140.

There were no suspects at the time and there was no video surveillance footage available. A written report was taken.

POSSESSION

On Aug. 22 around 8:19 p.m. Officer Michael Bailey conducted a traffic stop on a driver who had left the Shell gas station on Elmwood Ave. without his seat belt on.

The driver, later identified as Ricardo Pena, 24, of 85 Linwood Ave. in Providence, got out of the car and the officer detected the odor of marijuana on him.

After calling for backup, another officer saw a plastic bag of marijuana on the back of the passenger side front seat.

A criminal check of Pena revealed that he had a warrant out on him and had an extensive history with drugs, manufacture, and delivery. Pena was placed into handcuffs and put in the police car.

Inside Pena’s vehicle was $712 in cash, another small bag of marijuana, a digital scale, and a box of small baggies. Pena said that everything in the vehicle was his. There was 16.7 grams of marijuana in total.

Pena was taken to police headquarters, where the above mentioned items were put into evidence and Pena was charged with Manfuacture/Poss/Delivery of Schedule I/II, a felony, as well as operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

SHOPLIFTING

On Aug. 29 at approximately 7:33 p.m. Officer Thomas Duncan responded to the Macy’s at Warwick Mall for the report of a shoplifting.

The loss prevention manager said that a female suspect, later identified as Kaliopi Malatos, 43, of 145 Surrey Lane in West Warwick, had taken a variety of men’s clothing from the store and took them into a dressing room. She then left the store without paying for any of the items, which ended up having a total value of $83.91.

Malatos was stopped outside the store with the clothing, as well as a magnetic censor remover she had sued to remove the Hawkeye form a pair of shorts she took.

Malatos was issued a no trespass order from the store and was taken to police headquarters, where she was charged with one count of Shoplifting – Misdemeanor. She was let go with a court summons.

On Aug. 30 at approximately 5:01 p.m. Officer Thomas Duncan responded to the Macy’s at the Warwick Mall for the report of a shoplifting that had just occurred.

The loss prevention manager said that while looking at CCTV surveillance he saw a male subject take a variety of men’s clothing items and conceal them in a shopping bag, then left the store without paying for any of it.

The subject, identified as Pamodou Trawally, 18, of 58 Alexander St. in North Providence, was then stopped outside the store and came back in without incident.

The total value of the merchandise taken was $160, and the store issued a no trespass on Trawally.

Before Trawally was properly identified, he had been giving both loss prevention and the officer a false name. His real name was confirmed by the officer calling his mother.

Trawally was taken to police headquarters. While in the car, the officer found a jewelry set, valued by Macy’s at $48, on Trawally.

Trawally was charged with Shoplifting – Misdemeanor and Obstructing Officer in Execution of Duty, and was released with a court summons.

WARRANT

On Aug. 26 at approximately 8:06 p.m. Officer Brian Chianese conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was speeding in the area of East Ave. off of the highway. The vehicle was also driving erratically across lanes and almost caused an accident with other vehicles. System checks of the vehicle revealed that the plate was not found in the RILETS system. The driver was identified as Norberto Perez Vidal, 36, of 302 Pontiac Ave. Apt. #1 in Cranston. Checks on Vidal revealed that he had a warrant out on him and so he was taken into custody without incident. He was taken to police headquarters, where he was issued court summons for Operation of Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Laned Roadway Violation, and Speeding. He was later picked up by Providence Police, who had the warrant out for him.
