DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

On Aug. 18 at approximately 1:03 a.m. Officer Michael Isherwood responded to the Shell Gas Station on Greenwich Ave. for the report of a male driving erratically and vomiting in his car.

When the officer arrived, he found a white Jeep Cherokee on Main Ave. parked parallel to the curb. The plate number came back as an unregistered vehicle. The car was still running with its headlights and air conditioner on.

Inside the car, a male in the driver’s seat, later identified as Kenneth Doucette, 42, of 31 Starr St. in Johnston, was eating pizza but was also covered in vomit, as was the steering wheel, the floor, the door, and the outside of the car.

Doucette said that he was “okay,” and continued eating the pizza while the officer questioned him. He said he had been at the St. Rocco’s Festival and had had one beer.

Doucette’s speech was slurred, his eyes bloodshot, face flushed, and he had a strong alcoholic odor coming from his breath. The officer had him clean himself up with a paper towel and submit to a series of field sobriety tests. Doucette seemed confused, asking where his keys were despite having left them in the ignition after turning the car off.

During the sobriety tests, Doucette failed the first tests then said he couldn’t do the walk and turn test. The officer found a total of eight empty vodka nips in the front of his vehicle. He told the officer he had driven himself to the gas station and had actually had three beers that night. He said he hadn’t had anything else to drink, however.

Doucette was taken to police headquarters, where he agreed to B.A.C. tests. The two tests came back at .227 and at .237. He admitted to having drank the nips that were found in the car.

Doucette was charged with DUI of Liquor or Drugs (1st Offense) .15 or Greater as well as Driving on Suspended License (1st Offense) and Operation of Unregistered Motor Vehicle. He was released on court summons.

DRUG POSSESSION

On Aug. 17 at approximately 9:22 p.m. Officer Sara Goes saw a car driving on Post Road, by Airport Rd., in which the driver appeared slumped over, did not have a seat belt on, and was abruptly changing lanes with using their blinker. She conducted a traffic stop on Post Rd.

The driver was identified as Paulina Panciera, 20, of 88 Garfield Ave. in Providence. Panciera said she did not have her license, registration, or proof of insurance for the vehicle.

After running checks on her, the officer found Panciera to have a suspended license and an affidavit warrant out on her from RI state police for Bank Fraud, Passing a Counterfeit Note, Soliciting Another to Commit a Crime, Conspiracy, and Conspiracy to Commit a Crime. She also had a bench warrant out for her.

While searching the car, Panciera stated that she had drugs on her, and the passenger of the car said she thought Panciera had concealed a baggy of crack cocaine on her. The inventory search found crack pipes and ripped off baggy tips containing a white powdery substance.

The two were taken to police headquarters, where they were searched further. Panciera was found to have a baggie of two ecstacy pills on her. Panciera was charged with Possession of a Schedule 1 Drug and issued a court summons. She was taken to the ACI for the warrants.

LARCENY

On Aug. 21 at approximately 11: 25 p.m. Officer Keri-Ann Leighton responded to the CVS Pharmacy on Warwick Ave. in Lakewood for the report of a shoplifting in progress.

The reporting party said that a female, possibly in her late thirties or early forties, had taken a $12.99 Skin Therapy Oil from the store without paying for it, as well as another item that could not be identified. The store wished to press charges if the subject was found. The report was forwarded to Detectives, along with video surveillance footage.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

On Aug. 21 at approximately 10:15 a.m. Officer Christopher Cote met with a woman who came into police headquarters to report damage to her car that had happened at the end of July and early August. She said that someone had tried to pry open her trunk while her car was parked at her house on Shawomet Ave. multiple times, causing $500 worth of damage.

ROBBERY

On Aug. 22 at approximately 8:25 p.m. Officer Ryan Shibley responded to the Dollar Tree store on Warwick Ave. for the report of an attempted armed robbery. The assistant manager of the store said that a male, approximately six feet tall and about 18 to 22 years old, had just walked into the store wearing a baseball cap and hood to hide his identity. The male asked her to empty the check-out counter and she refused. She said he appeared to be scared and looked like he was on drugs.

She also said she thought he was carrying a skinny black knife inside his right sleeve, but she could not accurately observe if it was a knife or not.

The subject left the store after she refused to open the register.

The area around the store was searched for the man and the knife, but the officers didn’t find anything. A copy of the video surveillance was later taken for the investigation, which showed the subject walking towards Warwick Ave. after the incident, and the report was forwarded to detectives.

SHOPLIFTING

On Aug. 18 at approximately 8:05 p.m. Officer Nicholas DiNardo responded to the J.C. Penney at the Warwick mall for a shoplifting that had just occurred.

The loss prevention associate said that a male subject had grabbed 9 fragrance items totaling a value of $775 from the store before fleeing in a Honda Accord and driving away from the scene.

The report was forwarded to detectives. A copy of video surveillance was placed into evidence and a written statement was taken.

On Aug. 19 at approximately 1:14 p.m. Officer Christian Vargas responded to the report of two shoplifters in custody at the J.C. Penney at Warwick Mall.

The loss prevention associate had two females in custody. They were identified as Maylany Medina, 19, of 38 Phoebe St. in Providence, and Kimberly Chitic, 19, of 150 Burnett St. in Providence.

The loss prevention associate said the two females had entered the store around 12:57 p.m. and selected several items of jewelry, mostly bracelets, and also took a variety of clothing items as well.

Medina had shoplifted 7 items, valued at $368 worth of merchandise, and Chitic had shoplifted five items, valued at $248.

The two females had also shoplifted items from Target, which they had on their possession.

They were both taken to police headquarters, where both were charged with one count of Shoplifting – Misdemeanor and released on court summons.
