FRAUD

On June 19 around 2 p.m. Officer Hovsep Sarkisian responded to the report of identity fraud of a victim who went into police headquarters.

The victim said he received notice from Equifax, a credit company, that a credit card was fraudulently obtained under his name at the Walmart on Post Road and used the card to buy $1,457 worth of merchandise with it.

The victim responded to the Walmart and the manager said he would attempt to get video evidence of the subject who opened the credit card.

On June 25, Officer Brian Holleran met with a victim who went into police headquarters to report a stolen wallet, which had been taken from her car in Central Falls on June 17. She realized on June 18 that before she closed all her credit card accounts, one card was used at the J.C. Penney at the Warwick Mall for multiple purchases of $402, $287, $66, and $56.88.

An identity packet was given to the victim for her to fill out and she was told to contact the Federal Trade Commission about the incident. The report was forwarded to detectives.

LARCENY

On June 18 at approximately 2:42 p.m. multiple officers responded to the report of a stolen car from the Harbor Freight Tools on Bald Hill Road.

The victim told them that he had parked his car around 2:15 p.m. that day and when he came out twenty minutes later his car was gone. He said he had his keys with him and had locked his vehicle. The registration and make of the car was taken and the victim said he wished to press charges if a suspect was found. His car, a 2017 Lincoln MKZ, was valued at $30,000.

On June 19 at approximately 7:11 p.m. Officer Timothy Kenyon responded to the report of a stolen bicycle from the Newport Creamery plaza on Warwick Avenue.

The victim said that he put his mountain bike, valued at $159.43, behind the building and when he returned back later it was gone. He said he had not secured the vehicle. There was no video surveillance of the area and the victim did not know the serial number of the bicycle. There were no suspects at the time.

A variety of items were stolen from a vehicle that was parked in the Shell Gas Station on Greenwich Avenue on June 20, and Officer Richard Odell responded to the victim around 10:54 p.m.

The victim said she had parked a friend’s vehicle outside the gas station while she went in and had left the driver’s door unlocked with her purse on the passenger’s seat and her phone in the center console. When she returned to the vehicle, the purse, valued at $300 and containing glasses valued at $450 and some medications, as well as her iPhone, valued at $800, were all taken from the vehicle.

The victim told the officer she suspected the male in front of her in line to be the person who took her belongings. The ‘Find My iPhone’ app on the officer’s phone showed the victim’s phone to be in Jersey City, New Jersey, and no local location could be found. The store’s employee said video surveillance would be available to look at, and the case was forwarded to detectives.

SHOPLIFTING

On June 19 at approximately 10:43 a.m. Officer Christian Vargas responded to the J.C. Penney at the Warwick Mall for the report of a shoplifting that had just occurred.

The loss prevention associate told the officer that a male in his 30s had taken a cologne valued at $79 from the Sephora section of the store at around 10:35 that morning. She said the male then exited the store and drove away in a white Infiniti sedan. She did not get the license plate of the vehicle.

J.C. Penney wished to press charges if the suspect was found, and surveillance video of the store was provided. The case was forwarded to detectives.

On June 19 at approximately 10:45 a.m. Officer Christian Vargas responded to the report of shoplifting that had just occurred at the Dick’s Sporting Goods on Bald Hill Road.

The manager of the store said a male had just taken a cooler, valued at $299.99, and left in white Infiniti sedan that possibly had Texas license plates. The case was forwarded to detectives.

On June 20 at approximately 4:30 p.m. Officer Kyle Fitzsimmons responded to the Walmart at Rhode Island Mall for the report of a shoplifter in custody.

The shoplifter, later identified as Aggie Reels, 40, of 45 Wesleyan Ave. in Providence, had tried taking $163.51 worth of merchandise from the store without paying. She had gone to the self-checkout area and only scanned certain items, which the asset protection associate observed her doing.

Walmart wished to press charges for the attempted shoplifting. Reels was taken to police headquarters, where she was charged with Shoplifting and released with a court summons.

VANDALISM

On June 23 at approximately 7:39 a.m. Officer Rose Michel responded to a residence on Cowesett Road for the report of malicious injury to property.

The victim told the officer that his metal mailbox had been damaged sometime within that last day. The officer observed the mailbox was dented and detached from its metal post. There were no witnesses to talk to.
