Warwick PAL took two from Flood in Connie Mack baseball action last week, cruising to a 7-1 victory at Mickey Stevens on Thursday before capitalizing on walks and errors on Saturday at Hendricken en route to a 12-4 win.

PAL did all of its scoring in two innings on Saturday on its way to an 8-run victory. The road team started the scoring in the top of the second, when it plated seven runs on two hits, five walks and a pair of errors against Flood right-hander Rob Whalen.

Warwick shortstop Andrew Ekroth led off the inning with a double, and he advanced to third a couple pitches later when Andrew Merryfield reached on an error. Merryfield then stole second and the throw down allowed Ekroth to trot home to make it 1-0.

PAL doubled its lead two batters later when a Dylan Bracken grounder was airmailed over the first baseman’s head, causing Merryfield to score all the way from second to push PAL’s lead to 2-0. Derek Lallo brought home Bracken with a ground out, and bases loaded walks to Sean Blanchard and Ryan Carlson increased the edge to 5-0.

Ekroth capped the scoring in the second with his second double of the inning, this time plating Cam Armenti and Blanchard to make it 7-0.

Armenti started on the bump for PAL, and he cruised through the first two innings before running into a bit of trouble in the bottom of the third. Flood would score its first runs in that half inning, as an RBI ground out by Matt Smaldone and an RBI double off the bat of catcher Manny Urbaez trimmed Flood’s deficit to 7-2. Flood was looking to tack on more, but Armenti got Antone Mello to ground out with the bases loaded to escape the inning without further damage.

Flood went back to work in the bottom of the fifth as well. Zach Furtado’s ground out to the right side off Merryfield, who relieved Armenti after 4 1/3 innings, scored Smaldone, and Mello followed with an RBI single that brought home Urbaez to make it 7-4.

PAL would halt Flood’s momentum in the top of the sixth, however, adding five more runs with two outs in the inning to put the game away.

The five-run sixth was highlighted by a 2-RBI double off the bat of Carlson and an RBI single from Merryfield, while the other two runs scored on an error and a bases loaded walk.

PAL concluded its regular season as the No. 2 seed for the playoffs with a 12-3 record, while Flood will be the No. 7 seed at 8-7.

Round of 16 series (best-of-three) were set to get underway on Monday, but results were unavailable at press time.

PAL will play its second game against No. 15 Tiverton this evening at Pocasset Elementary School at 5:30 p.m., while Flood will take on the Narragansett Lions in Game 2 of their series tonight at 5:30 p.m. Both PAL and Flood would be home for Game 3s if necessary on Wednesday night.
