On Wednesday at approximately 11:01 a.m., Warwick Police along with Warwick Fire/EMS responded to 2250 West Shore Road for the report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries involving a motorcycle. Officers arrived to find a single motorcycle in the woods and the male operator being tended to by bystanders.

According to the police report, initial investigation reveals that a motorcycle, operated by a 77 year old male from Warwick was operating westbound on West Shore Road. The male operator left the roadway, travelled along the sidewalk, and then crossed all three lanes of traffic on West Shore Road. The motorcycle ultimately came to rest in a wooded area at the corner of West Shore Road and Pearl Ave.

The male operator was found unresponsive upon arrival by officers and EMS. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. At this time identification of the operator is being withheld pending notification of family.

The Warwick Police Traffic Unit reconstruction team is investigating this incident. At this time it appears speed/alcohol/distracted driving were not a factor in this accident.
