Medeiros makes pitch to District 2 voters

Open Letter to School Committee District 2 (Wards 4, 5 & 6) voters:

I respectfully ask for your vote for Warwick School Committee on November 6 and please allow me to explain why.

This is a crucial time for our schools. Our students need someone with a proven & positive investment in our district. I always look for the best solution through compromise and I think that attempts to disparage our schools are counterproductive and certainly don't benefit our students or our community. I will continue to do my due diligence and thoroughly research each issue and, most importantly, represent my constituents in a respectful manner.

I am a state certified K-2 teacher and work in the private sector as both a Partner and Director in a certified Warwick PreK - K child development center. I'm familiar with RIDE & DCYF rules and regulations because our center must comply with them - the same rules and regulations that apply to our schools as well.  I've dedicated over 25 years of my life to children from PreK - 10 years old to support their lifelong learning skills. I have also provided school age tutoring services as well. In addition, my husband and I have hosted international high school-age exchange students for nearly 10 years. And like you, I'm a taxpayer.

During my tenure on the school committee I have worked for and supported: all day Kindergarten, audio recording of monthly meetings, increased technology for students and educators, increased Career & Tech programs and increased Advanced Placement courses. Further, I've advocated for safe-practices training for bus monitors. I've advocated the responsible use of funds during economically stressed times and like everyone else, want to see better communication with the city.

I understand how difficult it is balancing academic priorities, staffing needs, education law, and student growth & development with the funding challenges that we currently face and have faced during my years on the committee. It's something that I take very seriously. To give every student the best possible chance to become a confident, lifelong learner is my job, both professionally and as a member of the school committee. It's what I've dedicated my life to do.

Terri Medeiros

School Committee candidate

District 2 (Wards 4, 5, 6)
