Meat and eat, fundraising for Warwick Boys & Girls Clubs

Empty your stomachs: All-you-can-eat food will be provided buffet style at the Annual Sportsman Game dinner to Benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick.

More than eight different types of dishes including venison chili, sausage, meatballs, marsala, meatloaf, wild boar, game hen and brushetta will be available to eat until your heart’s content. Ralph’s Catering will be supplying the food.

There will be festivities to accommodate during the dinner, including a 50/50 raffle, sports themed raffles, and a cash bar. Eleanor Acton, the Development Director for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick, says it’s “not only delicious, but a fun time.”

Acton said the Annual Game Dinner has been a tradition since 2007, when one supporter who loved game dinners had suggested the idea. Since then, attendance has averaged around 300 people.

She told the Beacon that she hopes this will spread awareness for their cause and the services they provide for the kids.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick have been involved in the town for nearly 50 years, involving more than 1,400 boys and girls from ages 5 to 18. The club provides services in areas such as character and leadership development, health and life skills, the arts, sports, fitness and recreation. “We help a lot of kids, and the number of kids is only growing,” Acton said.

She said that this isn’t the only event they hold, and they will be having their annual auction with a $10,000 cash raffle in April.

The Annual Game Dinner will be held on Sunday, February 25th at the Kelley Gazerro Post, 1418 Plainfield Pike in Cranston. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $30, and can be purchased on their website at www.wbgclubs.org, by visiting or sending a check to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick administrative offices at 42 Frederick St, Warwick, RI 02888 or by calling 467-4385.
