Marguerite “Peg” (Simonini) Currier, 92, of Warwick, passed peacefully into the arms of Our Lord and Savior Jesus, on September 4, 2017 at Brookdale West Bay, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Warwick, the daughter of the late Giuseppe [Joseph] Ferdinand Simonini and Agnes Mary Burke, she lived in Warwick all her life. She married the love of her life, Arthur, upon his return from World War II, enjoying 62 years of marriage. Peg worked various jobs, but the one she recalled most fondly, was her time as librarian for the Conimicut branch of the Warwick Public Library. An avid reader, whose book stacks were found scattered about her room, Peg loved to suggest a good book. She enjoyed a new work of fiction or solving a crossword. She was so beloved that she was recognized by City of Warwick as the oldest city employee upon her retirement at the age of 84. Looking to try something new, Peg took a painting class in her midlife uncovering a hidden talent. She delighted family and friends with gifts of landscapes of her beloved New England. Representing the small towns and country sides, she would visit with her late husband Arthur on one of their many spontaneous weekend getaways, these oil paintings are cherished by those that proudly display them.

She was dedicated to her Catholic faith, and proved her devotion as a member of Ss. Rose and Clement parish, in her service as a Eucharistic Minister, and church secretary. She was a woman that prayed for those she loved, especially her husband and her children as evidenced by the many handwritten prayers of supplication on their behalf to her Jesus. Peg even tried her hand at acting, with her husband, as a member of the Long Street Players, a community group that met at the church. They successfully performed, You Can’t Take It with You, at CCRI to much applause.

Her family was her greatest joy and she loved any occasion to cook a big pot of sauce and meatballs. Her famous sausage bread, having been enjoyed at countless gatherings, has been passed on for future generations. Young ones could not escape the pinching of their cheeks when Grammie would lean in for “pinch-a-keno faccia bella” (meaning pinch your beautiful face in a language that is part Grammie part Italian). In a letter to her family, she wrote loving descriptions about each one of her children, beginning with, “There is not a day that goes by that I do not thank God for all of you.” and ending with, “I love you all!! Do not ever change!!” In another note she wrote, “I love you all and respect what you have become, fine decent adults. Your Dad would be so very proud of each of you.”

Peg is survived by her loving children, James Currier and Karen Currier of Florida, Judith Currier Winter and her husband Ronald of Michigan, John Currier and his wife Joyce of Warwick, Joyce Currier Brown and her husband Steven of Warwick, and Jenifer Currier Lloyd and her husband Thomas of Maine. She was the devoted grandmother, “Grammie” of fifteen: Jessica Cloud, Christopher Currier (P.P.D.), Ronald J. Winter, Heather Streets, Gregory Winter, Alicia Vega, Michael Winter, Kelley Currier, Sarah Caddell, Erin DeLuca, Caitlin Brown, Elizabeth Fryer, Genevieve Currier, Rebecca Lloyd and Molly Brown. She was the proud great-grammie of eighteen and was awaiting the arrival of the nineteenth and twentieth. She is predeceased by her beloved brother, Alfred Simonini, and a grandson, Matthew Winter.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale West Bay and Beacon Hospice for the loving care provided.

Visiting hours are Friday, September 15, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Barrett and Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick.
