Margaret E. (Slattery) Hewitt, RN, 89, a retired Registered Nurse passed away Saturday, January 26 2019 at Kent Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late James F. Hewitt Jr.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Margaret M. (Toohey) Slattery. Mrs. Hewitt had been a Registered Nurse for 42 years at Rhode Island Hospital. She held the positions of Head Nurse on the Surgical Unit and Supervisor of Personnel Health Services. She was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament School, St. Patrick’s High School, and a 1951 graduate of RI Hospital School of Nursing, where she was a member of its Alumni Association. She served on the Board of Directors of the RI Hospital Nurses Alumni Association and the Lucy C. Ayles Foundation. A communicant of St. Kevin Church, she was a charter member of St. Kevin Women’s Club, where she served as president and secretary of the original parish council.

She is survived by one daughter, Margaret F. Quinn, one son, James F. Hewitt III; one grandson, Michael J. Quinn; one granddaughter, Kristen E. Quinn-Wright; one great-grandson, Declan Michael Wright; and one sister, Mary Ellen Brookshire. She was the sister of the late Kathleen M. Wilkins, and Peter J. Slattery.

Her funeral will be held Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m.
