(Dumb crime caper)
Despite a great supporting role by Daniel Craig, we didn't care that much for this dumb crime caper movie.
Channing Tatum and Adam Driver play two white trash losers who have a loose plan to rob the Charlotte Motor Speedway of millions of dollars. It is hard to gain any sympathy for these lunkheads who recruit Joe Bang (Craig), a bomb expert and plot to break him out of jail, do the robbery, and return him before anybody knows he's missing. They enlist two more losers who make the "plan" difficult to carry out, as half of the time the gang hasn't a clue as to what they are doing and the other half of the time they screw things up. To make matters worse, Jimmy has a bad limp from an old football injury and brother Clyde only has one arm.
To fill out the two hours, the writers add a lot of extraneous material that has little to do with the heist. It's a shame that the plot wasn't more clever and the characters not so unlikable. Too many good actors, including Tatum and Driver, are wasted in this movie. Craig sure is a long way from 007, while character actor and country singer Dwight Yokam plays the irritating prison warden.
Just about the time you think the movie is over, along comes Hillary Swank as an FBI agent determined to put the brothers away. And then there's Seth MacFarlane as the most obnoxious character.
If you think that NASCAR is overrun with product placement, everything is for sale in this one.
Rated PG-13, with profanity and dumbness.
