There were all kinds of high fives and hand slapping inside famed Meadowbrook Lanes in Warwick last weekend.

For those youngsters who compete in the highly-popular sport of duckpin bowling, it was a time to shine – big time.

A total of nine Warwick youngsters tested their mettle against a field of 144 other representatives from Warren, Johnston and North Kingstown in hopes of capturing top honors in the annual Individual/Doubles Youth State Tournament that ascended upon the ageless, old-time bowling establishment located at 2530 Warwick Avenue last weekend.

“You’ve gotta love that sound,” offered Rob Farrell, the long-serving and popular general manager at Meadowbrook Lane as several his youth duckpinners recorded back-to-back strikes. “All the kids love this (annual) competition just as much as they do bowling in their local leagues.”

Although the final tallies for the 2018 State Youth Duckpin Tournament won’t be finalized until next weekend, Farrell complimented each and every bowler that competed last weekend and will be back at Meadowbrook Lanes for Route II Saturday.

Farrell heaped words of praise upon the nine youth duckpinners who represented Meadowbrook Lanes among the best entries from Town Hall Lanes in Johnston, Wickford Lanes in North Kingstown and the ageless Dudek Lanes in Warren.

Meadowbrook’s team was made up of Ryan Gentile, Matt Tracy, Katelyn Tracy, Daphne Cardillo, Josh Sleeper, Polo Ortiz, Matt Perreault, Michael Tracy and Jeff Perreault.

When asked if winners of the individual/doubles events advance to regional competition, Farrell said, “No, that only happens in the team championships with the winners moving to the National Youth Duckpin Tournament that’s held every year in Baltimore.”

This past year, Town Hall Lanes in Johnston had two teams quality for the nationals and both squads came home with championships.
