Lifespan, which owns and operates Rhode Island Hospital, will open the first in a series of Urgent Care clinics at Hoxsie Four Corners in September, the health care provider has announced in a release.

“On behalf of Lifespan Physician Group, I am excited to announce our commitment to providing great, convenient and affordable medical care to the residents of Warwick and its surrounding communities. We are honored to be your neighborhood Urgent Care and hope to help families, patients, and employees get the great care they deserve,” Bobby Hingorani, Director of Urgent Care Operations for Lifespan Physician Group, said in a statement.

The Urgent Care unit will occupy about 2,500 square feet that was formally Papa Gino’s. Crews have been working on renovating the space that is part of a larger shopping plaza.

According to the release, those visiting the urgent care, a program of Lifespan Physician Group, has the added benefit of access to a patient medical records on the MyLifespan patient portal as well as to Lifespan emergency services, primary care providers and specialists if needed.

“We are a state-of-the-art facility with the ability to perform minor procedures and flat plate X-ray. Our well-trained medical staff believes strongly in the importance of working with fellow community health providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. When necessary, our Warwick team can help refer patients within the broader health care system, including referrals to specialists, primary care physicians and hospitals,” said Hingorani.

Mayor Joseph Solomon, who said he learned of the development from a “coming soon” card he received in the mail, welcomed the news.

“Anything that comes into the city that benefits the community is a plus for the city,” he said. Solomon said the facility would act to reduce medical costs, saving people from visiting hospital emergency departments.

Lifespan Urgent Care will provide treatment for adults and children 18 months and older. Among the injuries and illnesses treated include colds and flu, earaches and sinus infections, fractures and sprains, animal bites, cuts, upset stomach and diarrhea, burns, insect bites, immunizations and sports physicals.

Clinic hours will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday, and some holidays. The clinic will be closed New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

A spokesman for Lifespan did not disclose the cost of the facility or when and where Lifespan will open additional Urgent Care clinics in the state.
