Lee Moses recently cemented his place in the RI football history books, as he received an invite to compete at the Arizona Cardinals’ rookie minicamp this weekend.

Moses, who was a standout football player and track athlete at Bishop Hendricken, played his college football at UMass Amherst where he was a core defensive player at the cornerback position.

Although Moses was not drafted at April’s NFL Draft, it did not take long for teams to reach out for his services.

“Getting the call was unbelievable, I can’t really describe it. It’s something you dream about, you see guys on TV and you see the emotions when they’re names are getting called. When I got the call I was like, “Is this really happening?’ I just thought of all of the hard work I put in playing at Hendricken and then up at UMass, it was an amazing feeling,” said Moses. “I never like to be too comfortable. I always try to keep an open mind. I didn’t watch the draft, I tried to stay away from the TV. I just worked out on Thursday went through my normal routine … I just tried to stay as positive as I could be.”

Moses looks forward to competing for a spot on the Cardinals’ roster, which includes future Hall of Famers in Larry Fitzgerald, Patrick Peterson, as well as the first overall pick in the draft in Kyler Murray.

“It’s an unbelievable franchise. They went to the Super Bowl (in 2009), they have a brand new coach (in Kliff Kingsbury) from Texas Tech. They have guys like Larry Fitzgerald, Patrick Peterson, the guys that I grew up watching. To be able to visit that facility, and wear the helmet, it’s crazy,” said Moses, who will be joined by UMass teammate Andy Isabella, a receiver that was drafted in the second round. “It’s exciting to have Andy there. I remember going to camp with him on the first day and he was just little Andy, now he’s big and ready to go. It’s exciting to have him there, and I know he is excited too.”

Between guys like Will Blackmon, Moses, Michigan’s Kwity Paye, Georgia-commit Xavier Truss, and Bryant’s Tom Kennedy, who got an invite to attend the Detroit Lions’ minicamp, Moses feels that Rhode Island has finally caught the eye of football teams on the national level.

“I don’t think we’re overlooked now. You see guys like Will, Xavier, (Tom), all of these guys have put in the hard work and have gotten the recognition and now when this happens, it’s nothing new. It’s a testament to them, I am proud of those guys, I am proud of Hendricken, all of that hard work is paying off,” said Moses.

As for this weekend’s minicamp, Moses hopes to impress the coaching staff with his versatility as a player, as well as his mental toughness.

“I just need to go in with a positive attitude. I need to show the coaches that I am versatile and I am willing to do whatever they want me to do,” said Moses. “Special teams, defense, I just want to go in there and show them that they can use me however they feel necessary.”
