It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Laurie Anne Mathias of Cranston. Laurie passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019 at the age of 51

. Laurie has been part of the West Bay Community for thirteen years. Laurie had an amazing spirit for life. She was extremely friendly and loved to talk to people. She was well known as a “Social Butterfly” who would always greet people with a “Hi” and a smile. She would regularly ask about your family to see how everyone was doing. Laurie loved to express her creative side with craft projects such as sewing, gardening and ceramics. Every spring Laurie would go to Imperial Ceramics to paint a piece of pottery, which she happily displayed in her home. Some of Laurie’s favorite hobbies included completing crossword puzzles, sailing with Sail to Prevail and listening to country music. Her preferred country singers were Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban.

Laurie was a Communicant of St. Rita’s Church for over thirty years and was also a member of St. Rita’s Church Special Religious Education, which fosters inclusion in assemblies of worship. She was a proud West Bay Knight Athlete, participating in Special Olympics Unified Bowling, as well as a jewelry maker with Jewelry by the Bay. Laurie was loved by all that knew and supported her. She will be deeply missed.

Born in Cranston, she was a daughter of the late Samuel R. Mathias and Charlotte Margaret Peabody.

Laurie is survived by a brother: Robert Mathias of West Warwick; her housemates at the Capeway Team: Denise and Valerie; and her West Bay Family and Community.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 11 a.m. in St. Rita’s Church, 722 Oakland Beach Avenue, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Urquart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Warwick.
