Jerilyn's Sewing School marks 12 years with Fashion Show

The staff and students at Jerilyn’s Sewing School in Cranston recently celebrated the conclusion of year during the school’s 12th annual Fashion Show.

This year’s show was held in the auditorium at Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick and featured the hand-sewn wares of 75 students ranging in age from kindergarteners to adults. It also featured projects completed as part of new class offerings this year, including dying and pattern designing.

The theme for the 2019 show was “Galaxy,” and the lighting and set design were provided by Advanced Production and Design.

During her remarks, owner and head teacher Jerilyn Perry noted that the school was awarded the title of Best Educational Services for 2018. She thanked all of the staff for their hard work throughout the year and announced next year’s fashion show theme as being “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.”

“We want this Earth to be here for future generations,” she said, noting that the school’s students will be working hard and doing their part with next year’s projects.

As is tradition at the fashion show each year, in lieu of paid tickets, guests were encouraged to donate canned goods for the Rhode Island Food Bank.

“This year we donated 474 pounds of canned food to the Food Bank,” Perry said.

The sewing school is located at 254 East St. in Cranston and is now hosting summer camps and classes. For more information, to register for a class or camp or to inquire about fall programming, visit jerilynssewingschool.com or call 632-4884.
