Jazz Revelations: Brazilian Jazz Explorations

The program will include bossanova/samba classics as well as original compositions written by Carlos Odria, who has drawn inspiration from different Latin American genres. Joining Carlos will be Cara Brindisi (voice), Geoffrey Oehling (double bass), and Thomas Spears (drums).

The group will present a synthesis of each member’s musical influences, in conversation with each other, while emphasizing traditional and contemporary takes on Brazilian music.

The Carlos Odria Ensemble is a high-energy acoustic ensemble that performs original compositions and arrangements of jazz standards and Latin American popular music. The group delivers an exciting blend of international styles such as bossanova, Afro-Peruvian festejo, rumba flamenca, and Cuban son with an improvisational approach inspired by the rich tradition of American jazz.

Funding for this concert will be provided in part by a grant from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (risca.online), through an appropriation by the Rhode Island General Assembly, a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and private funders.
