James “Jim” L. Lawton, 86, of Warwick, died Monday, November 12, 2018 at Sunny View Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of sixty-four years to Shirley Marie (Robinson) Lawton.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late William J.G. and Ursula F. (Costello) Lawton. Jim was employed for twenty-five years as an Electronics Technician at the Quonset Point Naval Air Station and then was employed for ten years at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in New London, CT. Jim later retired after ten years of service from Tracor, a subsidiary of General Electric Company, also located in New London. James honorably served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a Ham Radio Operator with the Call Sign: K1PEE. Jim was a communicant of St. Francis Church and a former communicant of St. Peter Church, both in Warwick and resided in Warwick since 1952.

In addition to his beloved wife, Jim is survived by his loving daughters: Janine L. DeLaire (Brian) of North Attleboro, Sharon M. Hanrahan (Edward) of Barrington and Alicia F. DiDonato (Vincent) of Warwick; a sister: Mary “Terry” Dwyer of Myrtle Beach, SC; five cherished grandchildren: Justin DeLaire, Nichole Morasse, Christie Staudt, Corey DiDonato and Jesse Pezzillo; and three great-grandchildren: Ashlyn, Case and Kyle. He was the brother of the late William J.G. Lawton, Jr., Chief of Police, Scituate, RI, Ursula “Barbie” Smith and Eileen Coulombe.

His Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. in the Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 596 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter.
