Improvements at Kent Hospital

To the Editor:

I would like to point out some recent positive events at Kent Hospital. In the current medical economic situation, this is surely a welcome change.

When I joined the medical staff in the year 2000, a Kent County resident who came to the Kent Emergency Room with chest pain and an acute ST elevation myocardial infarction (heart attack) would be treated with an IV medication (thrombolytics) while a patient who presented to Rhode Island Hospital would be treated with a superior treatment: a coronary stent. Within the last year Kent Hospital has begun performing emergency angioplasty such that the hospital now offers state-of-the-art cardiac care.

Many administrators, politicians, patients and doctors are to be thanked for their efforts in making this happen. Residents of Kent County should be grateful!
