Howl at the Moon

Posted

Enthusiastic star gazers and amateur space lovers alike had a rare marvel to enjoy on Sunday night, as the rare combination of a total lunar eclipse – caused by the perfect alignment of the Earth between the Sun and the Moon – and a “super moon” – when the Moon is completely full and at its closest distance from Earth – brought rise to the indisputably cool celestial phenomenon known as a Super Blood Wolf Moon. Clear skies enables millions across the world to look on in awe. The red-colored hue on the moon, hence the “blood” moniker, is caused by light scattering through the atmosphere and illuminating the Moon that is otherwise shadowed by Earth. Another full lunar eclipse will not be visible to the United States until 2022. (Warwick Beacon photo)
