The Bishop Hendricken baseball team cruised to an 19-5 win over hosting Cumberland last week to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Tucker Flint led the way for the Hawks, going 4-for-4 with five runs while Will Panarello added two hits and a home run for four RBI.

Kyle Marrapese got the win on the hill for Hendricken, going four innings and allowing three runs, six hits and striking out two batters.

Tied 3-3 in the top of the fifth, the Hawks would pull ahead when Braydon Dolbashian hit an RBI single, followed by a two-run single by Panarello to make it 6-3. Colin Lemieux and Josh Stravato also chipped in RBI to extend the lead to 9-3 by inning’s end.

The Hawks continued to roll in the sixth inning, getting an RBI triple from Flint, as well as an RBI from Dolbashian to make it 11-5. Panarello would hit a home run, followed by an RBI by Lemieux to further extend the lead. Connor Pratt, Daniel Rice and Xavier Quezada also chipped in runs to set the score to 19-5.

“We’ve had to come back in both games (this season). The first game (Cumberland) jumped out to a lead and we had to come back, then today they came back and tied it and then we had to jump out ahead again,” said Hendricken coach Ed Holloway of his team’s performances against Cumberland on Thursday as well as the season opener. “We had some good at bats, and a pitching change helped (in the fifth inning). Both teams were a little sloppy and had some errors but I think we took advantage of it more than they did. It was a good win for us.”

Holloway was also pleased with his team’s aggression on the basepaths.

“You’ve got to force errors, be aggressive and make the defense play. We did a good job with that today,” said Holloway.

Hendricken jumped out a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning when David Bordieri knocked in two runs. The Hawks would add another un in the third inning when Flint scored from third on a passed ball. The lead was short lived though, as the Clippers would get RBI from Joseph Molis in the fourth, then a two-run single from Nick Croteau in the fourth to knot the score.

The Hawks improved to 2-0 with the win, and Holloway is optimistic moving forward.

“It was good for us in the win column to get back to back wins against a good team. The first five batters in their lineup can really swing the bat, so these were good wins for us. It’s early though, the top teams are still not totally ready to go, but it was good to get some quality wins,” said Holloway. “We have a good team. We are deep in pitching which is the key, we are a good hitting team, we have been playing some young guys which will help us out too.”
