Like a bad penny, he keeps coming back.
My ruminations on the mistake of using Allan Fung’s name and the Rhode Island governor in the same sentence are well known to all. I’ve been attacked by many Republicans that my criticisms are merely politically-based.
Lately, however, some Republicans have apparently had an epiphany of sorts and now see clearly that Allan Fung’s political agenda is as worn as a bad penny. Recently Republicans-leaning political columnist Chistopher Curran reported that Fung “is a reliable go along to get along pol.” These words certainly don’t suggest that Fung will bring change to the RI State House. They do suggest – in no uncertain term – Fung will mix a fair measure of political cronyism – learned in his earlier career as a State House lobbyist – with his stale party-line political promises to lower property taxes and business fees, lower the sales tax, and generally a lower cost to operate our state government. AS Curran stated these are indeed “40 year-old empty campaign promises [which] will not galvanize anyone.” And most apparent, how does Mr. Fung propose to offset the loss of state revenue resulting from his reduced sales tax rate?
Then, of course, there’s Fung’s complete mismanagement of the Cranston police department caused by political cronyism, which resulted in a state police takeover of the Cranston police department and a multi-million dollar legal settlement tax bill, that Cranston taxpayers have been forced to pay, and will continue to pay well into the future. What if “RI Governor Fung” screwed up our state police department as badly as he did the Cranston police department, would Fung call in the FBI to bail himself out? I hope James Comey is on Fung’s speed dial.
With the bevy of Republican candidates for Governor, Fung winds hands-down as the most photogenic. But a fresh face is no substitute for failed public policies as old as a worn penny.

So we should look to a Democrat? You mean the same party that has run this state into the ground for the past millennium?
You're afraid he'll likely be the only person likely to beat the Queen of cronyism and bad policy.
