Barring a dramatic change in the forecast, New Year’s Day looks to be delivering great conditions for a plunge into Greenwich Bay as Mentor Rhode Island holds its 9th Annual Frozen Clam Dip and Obstaplunge.
Held at Goddard Park, registration starts at 11 a.m. with the event kicking off at noon. Jo-Ann Schofield, Mentor president and CEO, said Monday the long-range forecast calls for temperatures in the 40s, which surely beats prior years. Two years ago, the event had to be postponed as the bay was frozen over.
In addition to favorable weather, Schofield said the tide will be high, which is a big thing for the plungers. Low tide means a long run in knee deep water before plunging.
Partners for the dip and Obstaplunge are Laid Back Fitness that sets up the obstacle course for those taking on that challenge before the plunge, Arctic sponsor CMIT Solutions of Central RI, and Glacial sponsor Greenwood Credit Union.
