Fred F. Roy

Fred F. Roy, 95, of Warwick, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Bentwood Nursing Home. He was the devoted husband of 67 years of Alice Yvonne (Harrison) Roy.

Born in Providence, he was the loving son of the late Fred E. and Amelia (Olink) Roy. Fred was raised in Providence and Cranston. He was a graduate of Cranston High School, where he lettered four years in football. Fred later graduated from Bryant University and also studied at Rhode Island School of Design.

During World War II, Fred honorably served as a Technician Fifth Grade in the Service Battery 695th Armored Field Artillery Battalion of the U.S. Army. Fred retired as the senior vice president of manufacturing at the Gorham Company in Providence in 1996 after 45 years of service. Fred was a member of the Board of Governors at the Warwick Country Club and was a member of the Newport Yacht Club. He enjoyed golfing, sailing and his other interests included gardening and reading military and presidential autobiographies and spending time with his family.

In addition to his beloved wife Fred is survived by two loving sons, Fred F. Roy Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Newport and Gregory H. Roy of Warwick; two sisters, Amelia “Millie” Sullivan of Warwick and Madeline Nelson of Falmouth; two cherished grandchildren, Meredith V. Campbell and Natalie H. Roy; and two great-grandsons, Christian Campbell and Oliver Campbell.

His visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 22 from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. in Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, followed by a Funeral Service in the Historical Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd., Providence. Burial with military honors will follow.
