'Everyone has right to be heard without being muzzled'

To the Editor,

I want to share my feelings with you regarding changing the City Council Rules with PCR 40-20 which is scheduled to be voted on at the April 5th City Council meeting. I would like to draw your attention specifically to the proposed rule changes for Rule 17 and 20.

While I recognize the work put into reviewing these rules and support many of the changes, I will not support the changes to Rule 17 and 20.

As I strongly stated at the Council Meeting on March 22, I will never support putting a “time clock” on a Councilperson or attempting to prevent them from the time needed to state the facts, dig into the politics, turn over every leaf, look behind the scenes, and ask all the necessary and pertinent questions in order to represent the people that elected me.

I will never support preventing anyone from digging in the subject matter and getting all the facts on the table before voting on any issue. I will never support restricting the members of the public, who myself along with my other colleagues work for, from exercising their Constitutional Rights and for having your voices heard. That is what these proposed rule changes will do, in my opinion.

There are many things that I have learned and will continue to learn by hearing from members of the public. I may not always agree with everyone but I believe that everyone has the right to be heard and without being muzzled. I ran for City Council almost 9 years ago to represent the people, regardless of how long I need to spend at a Council meeting.

There’s no “Stop Watch” controlling the time I’m willing to spend at any Council Meeting in order to do the job my constituents elected me to do.

Make your voices be heard!!!!

With great respect,

Councilman Ed Ladouceur

Ward 5

This coming from Ed, who speaks far too long even grandstanding on topics that he full well knows the answers too. Tell Cote to make his point then shut up. Never once has he stayed on topic abs his lapdog Ed feels bad for him.
