Eileen (Kilmartin) McGuire-McLellan, “Mother Goose,” 95, passed away Wednesday, December 13th, 2017 in her home of 59 years surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Edmond McLellan and of the late Michael “Mickey” McGuire.

Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late John D. Kilmartin and Abby (Martin) Kilmartin. Eileen received her degree from the School of Nursing of the Homeopathic Hospital of RI, did her residency at Yale - New Haven Hospital, was a veteran of World War II; a 2nd Lt. in the Army serving in Japan caring for United States soldiers. Eileen and Ed were the last surviving World War II veteran couple in RI. Besides dining out, shopping at Talbots, and talking on the phone, Eileen loved giving back to her community. She was a passionate parishioner of St. Peters Church, one of the first mentors in the Warwick schools, on the Board of the Mental Health Association, a member of RI Nurses Association, St. Vincent De Paul, St. Peter’s Women’s Club, and volunteer at St. Patrick’s Soup Kitchen, FISH and Reach-Out; and visited RI schools as Mother Goose. On the 50th anniversary of the TODAY show and the 2002 Winter Olympics, Eileen was thrilled to be interviewed by NBC TV about her brother, Gerry Kilmartin, an Olympic silver medal winner in hockey. She adored her brothers, the late Jack, Gerry and David Kilmartin.

Eileen is survived by her loving daughter, Mary Ellen “Elly” McGuire (Ron Trotta) of New York City, and predeceased by her son, Michael J. McGuire. She is also survived by her step-sons: Edward J. McLellan (Joan) of Holliston, MA, James M. McLellan of Coventry and Robert P. McLellan (Joyce) of Cranston; and grandsons: Jason Morse and Michael McGuire; step-grandchildren: Lisa Gibbons, David, Steven and Mathew McLellan; and long-time caregiver, Brendell Davis and her daughters, Burdell and Precious. She was the grandmother of the late Brian McGuire.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 20th, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 350 Fair Street, Warwick.
