Claire Denault of Warwick has joined the College Crusade of Rhode Island as advisor at Cranston High School East.

Denault earned a bachelor’s degree in literary and cultural studies and Spanish from Bryant University in 2015 and a master’s in applied Spanish from Middlebury College this year.

She previously was a full-time Spanish teacher at La Salle Academy, where she co-led the Spanish Club and developed integrated academic supplements and curriculum enhancements to teach Spanish-language learning at the first and second level through a lens of social justice and global perspectives.

As a social intervention intern this spring at LaRueca, a local nonprofit organization that focuses on social inclusion for community members in vulnerable situations in Madrid, she designed and implemented a community diagnostic to measure active civic engagement and identify key social intervention areas that was implemented across 19 community organizations in 15 neighborhoods. She also led a new educational journalism project, Cibercorresponsales, that coordinated three community organizations to collaborate and conduct six workshops about social issues including education, health, gender and social exclusion.

The College Crusade supports more than 4,000 students in middle school, high school and college each year with one-on-one advising and year-round programs that focus on academic enrichment, social and emotional development, career education, and postsecondary preparation to help them become the first in their families to earn a college degree. Sixth-graders who attend traditional public schools and select public charter schools and independent schools in Providence, Cranston, Pawtucket, Central Falls, Woonsocket and West Warwick are eligible to enroll in the College Crusade.
