City Park hosts filming of "Out of the Blue"

For over 30 years Warwick resident David Romano has worked in the film and television industry, most recently working as a key grip.

But this week something happened that he’s not accustomed to. He got to work just a couple minutes from his home at Warwick City Park where  “Out of the Blue,” has been filming.

“Being able to leave my house five minutes before the call is great,” he said Tuesday at City Park’s beach. “It’s amazing to be that close to home.”

Normally productions he works on are in Boston or even further north, meaning that he spends much of his time on the road. He said that when he found out that they would be filming in Warwick he was excited.

Warwick City Park was a particularly exciting location for him as well. Not only does he live down the street, but he spends a lot of time there on the weekends, with his daughter taking her to the different playgrounds there, and oftentimes taking their dog to the dog park. His son is often there at the rink shooting shots on the rink.

Since he knew a lot about the area, Romano was able to help out during the scouting of the location, telling the team about different areas at the location. He recalled people asking what the speed limit was and him being able to promptly say “15 miles per hour,” since his daughter often reminds him of it when they are there.

According to producer Tara Craig the film is about a wealthy woman who meets a younger man and the two of them trying to figure out how to continue their affair while she’s married.

She said the entire film was filmed in Rhode Island and they filmed for a total of 18 days. Five out of those days were filmed in Warwick. Aside from City Park they also spent time filming at Rocky Point.

Craig said that she filmed years ago in Rhode Island and had an excellent experience which led her to return to the Ocean State.

Scenes filmed in Warwick called for beaches and parking lots in the woods, Craig said. After looking at many different locations, it was determined that City Park would be the best location, according to Craig.

The film is written and directed by Neil LaBute. The cast includes Diane Kruger, Ray Nicholson and Hank Azaria.

Out of the Blue is expected to be released sometime in 2022 according to Craig.
