Tri-City Elks

Car shows are winding down. Weather permitting, they will have a car show Oct. 4 and 11 at 5 p.m. and the final date for this season will be Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. Motorcycles are welcome.

Country Line Dancing continues on Monday evenings from 7-9 p.m. Instructor is Lori Enos, and the classes are $8 per class.

Pilgrim Senior Center

The Pilgrim Senior Enrichment Center, located at 27 Pilgrim Parkway in Warwick, is offering educational, nutritional and recreational programs to folks 55 years of age and older. The center is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Pilgrim Senior Center Annual Fall Bazaar Oct. 20 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. They are currently accepting donations for raffle giveaways and white elephant room. Last day to drop off donations is Oct. 16.

Estate and administration planning seminar Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. This seminar will address your estate planning needs. Pilgrim Senior Center will be hosting a free AAA Defensive Driving Program on Nov 5 from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The goal of this workshop is to help experienced drivers improve their habits. Useful information regarding automotive technology, changes in roadway engineering and rules of the road will also be discussed. The course reviews safe driving skills for any age but is customized for drivers 55. No behind the wheel driving is involved. Contact Lisa at 468-4080 for a reservation. Space is limited.

Providence Tango

Providence Tango will hold a six-week Beginner Series with Kristian and Angeles starting Oct. 5. Kristian and Angeles are teaching the Intermediate Class at 7 and the Beginner Class at 8 followed by a two-hour Guided Practica. St. Rita’s Autumn Bazaar

The St. Rita’s Women’s Club is hosting their annual Autumn Bazaar Oct. 6 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the William Shields Post #43, 662 West Shore Road. Vendors will feature custom crafts plus there will be a penny social, a 50/50 raffle, s straw booth, a beautiful basket raffle, baked goods and many handmade crafts. The kitchen will be open for goodies and lunch.

Animal Faire

Church of the Transfiguration’s 2nd Annual Animal Faire will be held Oct. 6 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at 1665 Broad St., Cranston. Join them to celebrate our animal friends. Bring your pet or a picture of your furry friend, or even a stuffed animal, and they will blessing the animals at 1 p.m. There will be food, pet treats and more available.

Blessing of the Animals

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, in honor of St. Frances, is holding their Annual Blessing of the Animals Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. All are invited. For safety leash or cage your pets. Family Run/Walk

The first annual Mary K. Preston Fun Run/Walk will be held Oct. 8 at the Kent County YMCA. Fun Run will start at 1 p.m., walk at 1:30. Edgewood Congregational Church, 1788 Broad Street, Cranston, is having an indoor/outdoor yard sale Oct. 13 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Come check out all the merchandise. There will be household goods, clothing, shoes, toys, books, and so much more. As usual, they are having vendors at the yard sale. They will be selling Avon, linens, jewelry, soaps, and other types of home goods.

Roast Beef Dinner

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 6 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. U.S. Masters Swimming Program

The Kent County YMCA has a Masters Swim Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 a.m. and Sundays from 5-6:45 p.m. starting in May and running through August.  This aquatic fitness program, for anyone aged 18 or older, offers encouragement, camaraderie and support. Learn drills, improve stroke technique and proper breathing. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources. Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences.
