Tri-City Elks

Meat Raffle For Rosemary's Wish continues May 5 and May 19 from 2-4 p.m. There are four tables full of meats and gifts, also a 50/50 raffle. Come support this worthy cause.

Wright's Farm style buffet dinner May 12. Dinner will be served from 6-7 p.m. The oak hill band will be playing cover songs.

Warwick Rotary

Chatham Village Garden Club

The Chatham Village Garden Club will hold its next monthly meeting May 1 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace House on West Shore Road in Conimicut. The guest speaker will be Elaine DiChiara, a Sogetsu Ikebana instructor. This program is a workshop. Members will be making a unique Ikebana design. The Chatham Village Garden Club is a member of the Rhode Island Federation of Garden Clubs.

Ocean Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, May 1 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Regular meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. Ocean State Trivia Event

The Warwick Historical Society is co-hosting at the Warwick Public library on Sandy Lane an event that will test your knowledge of the Ocean State with author Roberta Mudge Humble. Roberta will be challenging you with trivia questions about our unique state. Have fun exploring the I Am Rhode Island interactive experience. Come have some fun on May 2 at 7 p.m.

Cranston Senior Guild

Cranston Senior Guild’s next meeting will take place May 2 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. There will be a short meeting, followed by bingo, refreshments and a raffle. All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join. Membership is $12 for the year. Cranston residency is not required. Plan on coming for a fun afternoon.

The Cranston Senior Guild will hold its installation luncheon June 6 at noon at Mesa Café & Grill, 100 Rolfe Street, Cranston. The luncheon will include your choice of chicken Marsala or baked fish, rolls, chicken escarole soup, salad, pasta, green beans, and carrots. For dessert you have a choice of tiramisu or fresh fruit cup and coffee or tea. The total is $25 (tax and tip are included). A raffle will follow the luncheon. St. Catherine of Siena Anniversary

St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Apponaug is celebrating their 100th anniversary May 6. The celebration begins with a Mass at 11 a.m. followed by a dinner at Chelo’s, 2225 Post Road (City Centre), Warwick. Tickets are $30 per person with a choice of three different meal choices. GFWC Warwick Women’s Club

The GFWC Warwick Women's Club will hold its installation banquet and meeting May 8 at 6 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza on Greenwich Avenue, Warwick. This club is a civic/community-oriented club that provides funds and/or goods for local organizations, such as Project Undercover, House of Hope, RI Mentoring, Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center and the Norwood Boys' and Girls' Club. There are many other activities handled throughout the year, i.e. Pinwheels for Prevention of Child Abuse, thank you cards and Valentine cards for veterans and activities relating to domestic abuse. Kick Off the Summer Party

Diane's Delectables, home of custom made cakes, cupcakes and homemade ice cream located at 1565 Post Road, will be hosting a "Kick Off To Summer Party" May 20 from 1-4 p.m. or when supply runs out. They will be giving away a small scoop of 100 percent homemade ice cream and are just asking for a small donation of your choice that will go to benefit homeless animals.  Must be present to get the free ice cream scoop. Iggy’s Doughboy Dash

The Iggy’s Doughboy Dash, where contestants eat a little and run a little for the benefit of the A-T Children’s Project, will be hosted May 6 by Iggy’s in Oakland Beach. Registration starts at 8 a.m., followed by the run, rain or shine, at 9:30. The run, where people stop at stations to eat doughboys, honors Warwick residents Andrew Martin and Zach McMillan, who both suffer from the rare genetic disease Ataxia-Telangiectasia. Johnson Memorial Scholarships

Applications for the James V. Johnson Memorial Scholarships sponsored by JONAH Inc. are available for graduating seniors from Pilgrim, Toll Gate and Bishop Hendricken High Schools. Students must be Warwick residents. Scholarships are $1,000 and on average five scholarships are awarded annually. Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 5 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. Cornerstone Church Food Pantry

Pilgrim Senior Center

The Pilgrim Senior Enrichment Center, located at 27 Pilgrim Parkway, offers educational, nutritional and recreational programs to folks 55 years of age and older. The center is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources. Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences.
