Pilgrim Senior Center

The Pilgrim Senior Enrichment Center, located at 27 Pilgrim Parkway, offers educational, nutritional and recreational programs to folks 55 years of age and older. The center is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The center will be closed Nov. 10, Nov. 23 and Nov. 24 and closing at noon Nov. 22.

Medicare Open Enrollment Help At Pilgrim You may make changes to your coverage between Oct. 15 and Dec. 7. Chess players wanted at the Pilgrim Senior Center. Join in this game of strategy on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in the Billiards Room. They will teach new players, so come give it a try.

Evening square dance classes coming to pilgrim senior center. Pilgrim Senior Center to introduce new evening Adult Enrichment Square Dance Program.  Classes will be Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. starting Dec. 7.  Participants must be 18 years old. Call Kathleen at 468-4074 for more information.

Tri-City Elks

Roger Ceresi & The All Starz "Fall Fling" Nov. 4 from 8:15-11 p.m. Tickets are $12 per person. Tickets will be available during regular business hours in the Lounge. Monday through Thursday lodge opens at 3 p.m. and Friday through Sunday at 12 noon.

Country Line Dancing Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  Cost is $6 per person, and the instructor is Lori Enos. Come on down with your boots and kick up your heals.

Zumba will take place on Tuesday evenings beginning at 6 p.m.  Cost is $6 per person and the instructor is Lorraine Blanchard.  

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 5 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. Pumpkins at St. Mark’s

The Pumpkins are coming to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, through Oct. 31 priced according to size. Proceeds help fund the ministries of St. Mark's. Ten percent will be given to the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center. Pumpkins may be purchased Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturdays 9-5 and Sundays 11-5.

Senior Guild

Cranston Senior Guild’s next meeting will take place Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. There will be a short meeting, followed by bingo, refreshments and a raffle. All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join. Cranston residency is not required. Plan on coming for a fun afternoon. The Guild’s holiday luncheon is set for Dec. 6 at Mesa Café.

Woodbury Variety Show

Woodbury Union Presbyterian Church, at the corner of West Shore Road and Beach Ave., will hold its 14th annual Thompson Memorial Variety Show Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $10 each and children under 12 are free. Proceeds will go to Presbyterian Disaster Relief to aid victims of the recent hurricanes that affected the U.S. and Puerto Rico and the surrounding Caribbean islands.

Lobster Raffle

The West Bay Anglers presents their 24th Annual Lobster Raffle every Saturday Nov. 4 through March 17 at the Warwick Firefighters Hall, 750 Warwick Ave. Doors open at 1 p.m. The public is invited. For more information call 463-3331

Daughters of Isabella

Gaspee Seniors

The next meeting of the  Gaspee Seniors will be held Nov. 7 at 11:30 a.m. at Sams on West Shore Road in Warwick. They will be having a memorial service for deceased members followed by a dutch treat luncheon at noon.  

Chatham Village Garden Club

The next monthly meeting of the Chatham Village Garden Club will be Nov. 7 at 7p.m. at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center located at 821 West Shore Road.  The guest speaker will be from Wild Birds Unlimited and the topic will be “Winter Birds.”

Ocean State Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting Nov. 7 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Regular meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. Armenian Food Festival

Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Church, Providence, presents its Armenian Food Festival at Rhodes On The Pawtuxet, 60 Rhodes Place, Cranston, Nov. 11 and 12. Featuring chicken, losh and shish kebabs and kufta dinners. Armenian delicacies, dancing to live music, arts and crafts, flea market, gift baskets, children’s corner, country store, jewelry and hourly raffles. Turkey Supper

First Congregational Church of Warwick, 715 Oakland Beach Ave., is having their annual all you can eat turkey supper Nov. 11 from 4:30-7 p.m.  Menu includes turkey, stuffing, gravy, turnip, squash, green beans, rolls, butter, cranberry sauce and homemade desserts. Cost is $12 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under, children 5 and under are free.

NARFE Meeting

The next monthly meeting of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees, South County Chapter 998, will be held Nov. 14 at the Cowesett Inn, 226 Cowesett Ave., West Warwick. Bird Feeder Donations

Wild Birds Unlimited, Warwick, annually conducts a feeder swap event, which generates bird feeders for donations within the community. The feeders are completely refurbished and as a result are perfectly functional. The feeder swap has resulted in more than 50 feeders over the past four years and the feeders have been given to local schools, senior centers and assisted living facilities. If you are interested in obtaining a feeder for a deserving destination, contact Richard Del Sesto at 826-0606 or wbuwarwick@yahoo.com.

Alzheimer’s Support Group

Physical Fitness Training

A local non-profit will bring organized basketball, nutrition education and physical fitness training to 160-200 youth in Warwick. The program will run through Feb. 28, and players only pay a $25 fee for the entire season. They are a registered 501©3 non-profit, and they are currently close to capacity. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Aphasia Conversation Group

On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. Bonniedale Farm in North Scituate offers dog and cat food at no cost to struggling pet owners, hoping to provide for the animals while easing the burden on community members facing tough times. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Grief Support

Evening Counseling Available

If you are experiencing depression, anxiety or overwhelming stress coupled with an addiction to or dependence on drugs or alcohol, then The Kent Center’s new evening program may be right for you. Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. The groups are confidential and free of charge. For more information call Jessica at 738-1700.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
