Tri-City Elks

Tri-City Elks continue with the "Classic Car Show" each Thursday evening at 5 p.m. Bring your custom collectible car and show it off or just come and enjoy. Motorcycles welcome. There will be music and food for sale. The Tiki Bar will be open for beverages.

Neal & the Vipers with Dave Howard will be at the Elks on Oct. 13. Music begins at 8:30 p.m. Cost is $6 per person at the door.

Country line dancing lessons will begin once again in September every Monday night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Classes taught by Lori Enos. Cost is $8 per person. Proceeds to benefit Elks charities.

Zumba classes will begin Sept. 5. Classes run from 6-7 p.m. with instructor is Lorraine Blanchard.

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 6:30 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. Lifestyle Change Program

Also known as the Diabetes Prevention Program, a free lifestyle change program will help you lose five to seven percent of your body weight and make changes today that will keep you healthy tomorrow. You will learn to fit more physical activity in your day, eat healthy without giving up all the foods you love, and be part of a group for support. These efforts have been proven by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to stop the progression of pre-diabetes. Warwick’s Railroad

Come hear about Warwick's very own railroad Sept. 27 at the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane. Where did it go? How long was it operational? Warwick Municipal Retirees Association

Warwick Rotary

On Sept. 28 the Warwick Rotary Club hosts Mufti Ikram ul Haq, Associate Chaplain at Roger Williams University, resident Imam of Masjid Al-Islam in North Smithfield, and the founding president of the Fatwa Center of America. Warwick Rotary Club members create positive, lasting change in Warwick and around the world. A free community lunch and food pantry will be held Sept. 30 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, Warwick. Everyone is invited to participate.

Conimicut Village-Wide Yard Sale

The Conimicut Village Association will host the annual Conimicut Village-Wide Yard Sale Sept. 30 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Maps showing over 35 homes will be available outdoors at Woodbury Union Church (corner of Beach St and West Shore Road) and also at select participating homes. Rain date is Oct. 1.

Crafters Wanted

Annual Yard Sale

The public is invited to the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center’s annual yard sale to be held Sept. 30 from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at 821 West Shore Road in Conimicut Village. Blessing of the Animals

Autumn Bazaar

Pumpkins at St. Mark’s

The Pumpkins are coming to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, Oct. 8-31 priced according to size. Proceeds help fund the ministries of St. Mark's. Ten percent will be given to the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center. Pumpkins may be purchased Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturdays 9-5 and Sundays 11-5.

Gorton High School Monthly Luncheon

Monster Dash 5k

There will be a Monster Dash 5k along with a 1k for children on Oct. 28 at Goddard Park in Warwick beginning at 9 a.m. All of the proceeds to this event will go directly to a local Warwick family whose 3-year-old son was diagnosed with brain cancer back in July. Medullablastoma is a form a brain cancer that effects 250-500 children in the U.S. each year. Bird Feeder Donations

Wild Birds Unlimited, Warwick, annually conducts a feeder swap event, which generates bird feeders for donations within the community. The feeders are completely refurbished and as a result are perfectly functional. The feeder swap has resulted in more than 50 feeders over the past four years and the feeders have been given to local schools, senior centers and assisted living facilities. If you are interested in obtaining a feeder for a deserving destination, contact Richard Del Sesto at 826-0606 or wbuwarwick@yahoo.com.

Alzheimer’s Support Group

Physical Fitness Training

A local non-profit will bring organized basketball, nutrition education and physical fitness training to 160-200 youth in Warwick. The program will run through Feb. 28, and players only pay a $25 fee for the entire season. They are a registered 501©3 non-profit, and they are currently close to capacity. Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. Bonniedale Farm in North Scituate offers dog and cat food at no cost to struggling pet owners, hoping to provide for the animals while easing the burden on community members facing tough times. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Grief Support

Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. The groups are confidential and free of charge. For more information call Jessica at 738-1700.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
