Tri-City Elks continue with the "Classic Car Show" each Thursday evening at 5 p.m. Bring your custom collectible car and show it off or just come and enjoy. Motorcycles welcome. There will be music and food for sale. The Tiki Bar will be open for beverages.

Trout Unlimited Meeting

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its monthly membership meeting Aug. 30 starting at 6 p.m. at the Arcadia Management Area Check Station, Rt. 165, (Ten Rod Road), at Wood River, Exeter. This will be the last of four streamside meetings held by the chapter. At 5 p.m., instead of hamburgers and hot dogs, pizza will take to the main table, with and soda/water provided by TU225. Lifestyle Change Program

Also known as the Diabetes Prevention Program, this free lifestyle change program will help you lose 5-7 percent of your body weight and make changes today that will keep you healthy tomorrow. You will learn to fit more physical activity in your day, eat healthy without giving up all the foods you love, and be part of a group for support. These efforts have been proven by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to stop the progression of pre-diabetes.

Conimicut Village Yard Sale

Grandparent Visitation Bill

The Rhode Island Senate has passed the Grandparent Visitation Bill 383. The House of Representatives has not passed their own grandparent bill number 5903. This bill will help many grandparents who have been isolated from their grandchildren. They need everyone to either e-mail or call their representative asking for their vote to pass this bill. They also need everyone to contact Cale Keable who is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and the Speaker of the House Representative Mattiello. If you are a grandparent or have fond memories of your grandparents, help our Rhode Island grandchildren who have been denied a relationship with their grandparents.

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 6:30 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. Bird Feeder Donations

Physical Fitness Training

A local non-profit will bring organized basketball, nutrition education and physical fitness training to 160-200 youth in Warwick. Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
