RIPIN drive-up vaccine clinic

On Saturday, June 19 and Saturday, July 10 from 9 to 11 a.m., the Rhode Island Parent Information Network (RIPIN) will be hosting a drive-through vaccine clinic. The event will take place at their office parking lot, located at 300 Jefferson Blvd. The clinic is open to all ages 12 and older, but is particularly ideal for children, youth, or adults with disabilities, or for anyone for whom it is difficult to get a vaccine at another site. Get a Job Thursdays

We Make RI, an organization that provides free manufacturing training, is hosting a series of job fairs every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at their offices at 200 First Avenue in Cranston. The next job fair will take place today, June 10. We Make RI offers job seekers a chance to meet with employers, get career counseling, resume help, and more. Some employers include Swissline Precision, Admiral Packaging, KB Surfaces, Warwick Hanger, and Hitachi Cable. Oakland Beach Association to meet on June 10

The Oakland Beach Association will meet today at 7 p.m., indoors at the Boys and Girls Club, 340 Oakland Beach Ave. Guest speakers from the city will be Bill Facente of Community Development, Principal Planner Luke Murray, and Senior Planner Dean Pimental. They will address improvement projects at the front beach and the Brushneck Cove parking area between Suburban Parkway and Strand Avenue. Masks are not necessary for those who are fully vaccinated. All Oakland Beach neighbors are welcome.

Classic car show rolls to St. Mark’s

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and West Shore Health Center are hosting a classic car show on Saturday, June 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature live vendors, a live DJ, food and beverages, and a 50/50 raffle. Raffle prizes include a TV, Air Fryer, Keurig, and outdoor fire pit. Silent auction prizes include a kayak, Ring doorbell, and Google Assistant. Rocky Point food truck festival

The City of Warwick, We Be Jammin’, and Ocean State Food Truck Festivals presents a food truck fest on Saturday, June 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event, held at Rocky Point Park, will feature over 100 vendors, over 20 food trucks, and live music. Admission is free. Bring a chair or blanket, and hang out with friends and family in the sprawling fields against the beautiful ocean scenery.

Breakfast boxes from Trinity Episcopal Church

Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 139 Ocean Ave in Cranston, will be offering $5 take out hot and cold breakfast boxes on Gaspee Parade Day on June 12. Boxes will be handed out from 8 to 10 a.m. The Gaspee Days Ecumenical Service will also be held on June 12 at 8 a.m. before the parade starts. Attend the service, claim your spot on the parade route, and then stop by for a breakfast box. Hot breakfast includes cinnamon French toast sticks and sausage with maple syrup and a banana. Cold breakfast includes yogurt, muffins, and a banana. Both come with a choice of coffee or juice.

Church of the Transfiguration yard sale

On Saturday, June 12, the Church of the Transfiguration at 1665 Broad Street, Cranston is hosting a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jewelry, kitchen items, clothing, and more will be available. Father’s Day arts & crafts show

Calling all lovers of arts, crafts, and shopping! The Oakland Beach Fireman’s Club is hosting their first arts show, just in time for Father’s Day. The event will be held on Sunday, June 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the OBVF clubhouse at 645 Oakland Beach Ave. Shop from over 20 vendors, and enjoy food and drink. Gearhead open house on June 13

Gearhead, located at 250 Oakland Beach Ave, is the first of its kind, professional grade, do-it-yourself automotive repair supercenter. The center is available for pros, enthusiasts and do-it-yourselfers to rent a fully-equipped service bay by the hour, day, week, or project.

Start a purple martin colony in your backyard

Join the Warwick Public Library and citizen scientist Lois Graydon for an online presentation on purple martins, the largest swallows in North American on Monday, June 14 at 1 p.m. Purple martins are aerial, insect-eating birds who migrate up to 5,000 miles from South American to the U.S. and Canada. However, in the last 50 years, they have lost nearly a third of their population. Learn how to help conserve purple martins and explore the lives of these beautiful American songbirds. Trivia for a cause

On Tuesday, June 15 beginning at 6:30 p.m. the Thirsty Beaver at 288 Atwood Ave in Cranston is hosting a trivia night to benefit the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center. WPL book groups

The Mystery Book Group will meet on Wednesday, June 16 via Zoom to discuss Cave of Bones by New York Times best selling author Anne Hillerman. Super Sonic Saturday

On Saturday, June 19 at 1 p.m., friends of the Shaw family are hosting a Super Sonic Saturday to benefit Warwick’s pint-sized superhero, Rowan Shaw. Rowan is currently facing another 10-month stretch of chemotherapy to treat his metastatic neuroblastoma. The family-friendly event will be held at the Elks Lodge at 1915 West Shore Road and will feature a live DJ, face painting, balloon animals, character appearances, and more. Empowering women through prayer

Join Shepard of the Valley UMC at 604 Seven Miles Road for a Day of Prayer on June 19. The United Methodist Women will open their church and labyrinth from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the annual Prayer and Self-Denial Celebration. Join anytime during the day to take part in contemplative, reflective, and interactive opportunities of prayer. The theme of this year’s Day of Prayer is She Leads: Empowering Women to Make a Difference. A free-will collection will be available, and offerings can be made to make real change in the lives of women, children, and youth around the world.

Food collection to benefit local pantries

A drive-through food collection to benefit the RI Community Food Bank and West Bay Marketplace, sponsored by Lakewood Baptist Church will be held on Saturday, June 26. The event will take place at the church parking lot at 255 Atlantic Ave, rain or shine; from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Non-perishable food items and monetary donations are welcome. Please make checks out to RI Community Food Bank. Greatest needs are canned vegetables, cereal, juice, and mac & cheese.

Over 65 Golf League

Since 1959, the Over 65 Golf League has worked with public golf courses to offer a league for the state’s senior residents. The nonprofit organization meets on Monday nights at Harbor Lights, located at 150 Gray Street in Warwick. To be a member or a spare (sub) in the league, dues are $55, or $30 for spares. Season play is May through Sept.; playoffs are Sept. 20 to Oct. 4; scramble tournament and end of season banquet are on Oct. 13. Outdoor yoga at Conimicut Point Park

Mental health resources for families and friends

The Rhode Island chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is launching a new resource for families and friends of those struggling with mental illness. NAMI Basics is a 6-session education program for parents, caregivers and other family who provide care for youth (ages 22 and younger) who are experiencing mental health symptoms. This program is free to participants. NAMI Basics is available online through NAMI Basics OnDemand at www.nami.org/support-education/mental-health-education.

The OnDemand program is guided by parents and family members with lived experience but is a flexible, self-paced program available 24/7.

CRICC Summer Networking Series

Dust off those business cards, grab your sunglasses, and join the Central RI Chamber of Commerce for the opportunity to meet new folks and reconnect with old friends during the 2021 Summer Networking Series, hosted in conjunction with Bay Coast Mortgage Company. Warwick Vets reunion rescheduled

The Warwick Veterans Memorial High School class of 1960 reunion has been rescheduled for Saturday Sept. 18. The event will be held at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet at 1 Rhodes Place. There will be a social hour from 12 to 1 p.m., and then a luncheon buffet from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $40 per person. Fez-tival of Trees returns to Rhodes on the Pawtuxet

Rhodes on the Pawtuxet is now accepting applications for crafters, vendors, and artists for the 7th annual Rhode Island Shriners Fez-tival of Trees. The event is scheduled for November 27 and 28. In 2019, over 3,000 guests strolled through the fundraising event Vendors have a few space options this year. Options include 8’ table in the mezzanine area for one day at $75, 8x8 front lobby space for both days at $200, and 10x10 front lobby space for both days at $250. Summer employment opportunities

The Warwick Departments of Recreation, Public Works, and the Sewer Authority are hiring for a number of positions. To be eligible, applicants must be Warwick residents with plans to continue their education full-time in September. The deadline for all applications is June 4, and applications can be accessed at www.warwickri.gov/personnel-department/pages/employment-opportunities. The Department of Public Works and Warwick Sewer Authority are hiring summer laborers. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The pay rate is $11.50 to $15 per hour, depending on experience. All applicants must be 18 years old as of June 15. The Department of Public Works is also hiring for the beach litter crew. This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The pay rate is $11.50 per hour, and students aged 14 to 17 are encouraged to apply. Working papers are required for anyone under 18 years old. The Parks and Recreation Department is hiring beach fee collectors. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, but some part-time positions may be available. Applicants must be available to work weekends and holidays. The pay rate is $11.50 per hour, and applicants must be 18 years old as of June 15. Parks and Recreation in need of lifeguards

Lifeguards are needed for all city indoor and outdoor swimming facilities for the summer 2021 season. There is no residency requirement for the lifeguard positions. Applicants must be at least 16 years old and must bring a photo ID with verification of birth to apply. Lifeguard certification cards must be original, up-to-date, and not due to expired before Sept. 30, 2021. Both full-time and part-time beach lifeguard positions are available for City Park Beach, Conimicut Beach, and Oakland Beach. Applicants must be able to work holidays and weekends. Both full-time and part-time positions are available for McDermott Pool. Applicants must be able to work weekends and holidays, and pool certification is required. If applicants are not lifeguard certified, but are competent swimmers and comfortable in deep water, they may be eligible for training and certification by the City of Warwick.
