Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL recently, hosted a group of job-seekers and coordinators from Avatar in Warwick, a licensed provider of residential and day services for individuals with developmental disabilities, to learn about employment opportunities at the company.

Ocean State Job Lot CEO Marc Perlman personally led a tour of the company’s 1.5 million square foot distribution center, making stops along the way to provide insight on day-to-day operations and leading a question-and-answer session in the company’s cafeteria.

Hosting Avatar and organizations like it is part of Ocean State Job Lot’s commitment to hiring candidates who are facing barriers to joining the workforce. The tour was an informative means of introducing Avatar job-seekers to future potential employment options within the company.

“At Ocean State Job Lot, we are constantly looking for new opportunities to diversify our workforce and promote inclusion,” Perlman said in a statement. “We hope to have made a positive impression on our visitors from Avatar and we look forward to building a lasting, mutually-beneficial relationship.”

Since 1991, Avatar’s mission has been to work side-by-side with people to enrich the quality of their lives. Avatar encourages each person to define and achieve his or her goals by recognizing their individual talents and provides the assistance necessary to enhance competencies in areas which are meaningful to the person.

"At Avatar, we strive to provide opportunities for individuals to demonstrate their value within their communities, and securing employment, which brings financial independence, enhanced community integration, and a wider social circle, can accomplish that,” said Avatar Employment Coordinator Saundra Barbosa.

“We believe that Ocean State Job Lot could be a wonderful resource for our job seekers going forward and we thank them for their support,” she said.
