Anna Friel stars in this British series about a wacko police detective whose husband has left her for another woman who gets murdered shortly into the series.

There’s a serial killer loose and what looks like a copycat serial killer.

Hubbie, it turns out, may be involved. He worked with his girlfriend. But then there’s the girlfriend’s shaggy dog brother who gets no respect at the firm. And then there’s the detective’s gay brother who has his own problem.

Add a list of messed up suspects and “Marcella” will keep you guessing during the eight episodes.

The series goes on for two more years, but one was enough for me.

YES DAY

Netflix has been promoting Jennifer Garner’s family comedy “Yes Day,” the very silly and stupid story about a strict mom (Garner) who is coerced into taking one day out of her life to not say “no” to her three kids.

Rules are established, the kids plan the day, and off they go on their ridiculous journey, which includes eating a gigantic sundae, going through a car wash with the windows open, and playing a dumb capture the flag game with water balloons.

There’s a subplot concerning mom and her teenage daughter attending a H.E.R concert.

Set this one up for the kids and find a place to hide.

WHAT IF

This psychological soap opera series has a sci-fi plot that runs amuck.

Lisa is a happily married young entrepreneur who develops a medical procedure that will change the world. She is approached by a venture capitalist (Renée Zellwegger) who offers to fund her if she will let her husband spend the night with her.

She does, and her whole world changes.

The plot thickens and takes more turns than a merry-go-round as people cheat on each other, lie, steal and generally do really bad things, including murder.

The premise is, “What if they had made other decisions? Does the end justify the means?”

There is a major revelation in the final chapter that changes everything.

While the series gets a bit overwhelming, it will hold your interest. And Zellwegger is excellent.

DEADLY ILLUSIONS

This series opens with one happy family around the dinner table.

We meet the mother, Mary Morrison, a best-selling author who needs to hire a nanny so she can devote herself to writing her next novel.

She hires Grace, who seems to be the perfect nanny, and slowly becomes a member of the family.

Subtle events occur and we are not sure if what we are watching is real or the figment of Mary’s imagination.

A murder occurs. A mystery needs to be solved. There are a couple of twists that lead the audience in different directions, and an ending that will keep you guessing.
