All candidates, voters welcome at 'sign-in' party

Posted

Republican City Committee Chairman Richard Cascella is holding an open house Tuesday at his business, the Coffee Grinder in the Governor Francis Shopping Plaza, and he’s inviting everyone, regardless of party affiliation, including Democratic and independent candidates.

Billed as a “sign-in party,” Cascella is asking all candidates to bring along their nomination papers but to leave at home their campaign speeches and any efforts to raise funds.

“I don’t care what party you’re from,” Cascella said Tuesday, “be there with your papers.”

Candidates had to file declaration papers as of last Wednesday. On July 3 they received their candidate packets including the forms to obtain the required number of signatures from registered voters to be on the ballot. The numbers vary from 50 signatures for city council to 200 for mayor. Signatures for council and state Representative and Senate seats must be from registered voters in those districts. Registered voters from across the city can sign mayoral nomination papers.

Nomination papers are to be filed by July 16.

Cascella said the sign-in party would run from 6 to 8 p.m. Refreshments are planned and Cascella urged those planning to attend, candidates as well as those interested in meeting the candidates and helping those wanting to serve the public, to put aside party labels.

“We’re looking to get signatures and to give them [the candidates] a good bump,” he said.

As for the Republican Party, Cascella said he is looking for the executive committee to “fine tune” its mission statement and to welcome people of all ages.

He said the party aims to “build brand by being good citizens.”

    Dear Rick Casella,

Thank you for your generous offer. It shows that the Warwick Republican Party is better to have a forward thinking person at the helm like you. I wish you a ton of success at the signing party but I have promised to attend the School Committee meeting being held at that same time so I have to decline. I'll try to make the end so please save me a decaf coffee. I agree with you that events like this "build brand by being good citizens". You are certainly one of them and making this event for all is a great idea.

    Congratulations..

    Take good care old friend.

The make-believe mayor, who was endorsed by the Democratic party in 2016 and lost its endorsement this year while attacking the "political insiders" from whom he accepted thousands of dollars in campaign contributions, is now suggesting that he will go to the Republican chairman's event to get his nomination forms signed.

This is the latest example of his belief that other people should do the work for him -- as others have paid the property taxes and water/sewer fees on his residence, including his current office landlord -- instead of actually putting in his own effort, beyond using this website for free political advertising.

Republican and Democratic voters will ensure that the make-believe mayor ends another campaign with a humiliating loss.

Congratulations CrickeeRaven, you anonymous coward of a critic.

You now have the distinction of making the most slanderous comments without even one honest sentence or phrase in them. It is 100% deceitful bull. Not a truthful part in it, other than "who was endorsed by the Democratic party in 2016".

I especially got a kick out of the part that says "instead of actually putting in his own effort". As you know I campaigned for 700 days in a row and spent over $40,000 of my own money". Do you know of ANY Warwick candidate that EVER that put in ANYWHERE NEAR that kind of effort?

That's right Mark. You don't. You lied again, while hiding behind a fake name...again.

Fake news. Fake sources. Fake people. Fake names.

    Happy Summer everyone.

Great job as always CrickeeRaven. Your statement left the fake mayor no response other than to attack you. He admits he was the Democratic nominee but yet skips right past the part about taking thousands of dollars in donations from the same people he is now calling "political insiders". What a fraud!

It's pathetic, Scal, how the make-believe mayor can accuse others of slander and then call them names.

He clearly doesn't understand that as a public figure due to his perpetual campaigning, he can not by definition be slandered.

He also does not understand that the earlier comment referred to his current campaign, not the previous failed one where he wasted $40,000 and lost (it was, however, helpful of him to willingly remind readers of that failure and pathetically try to spin it as a positive). In 2017, he put $100 into his campaign and otherwise, as correctly noted, expected others to do the campaign work that he should be doing himself (like collecting signatures for his second futile attempt to get elected).

"Do you know of ANY Warwick candidate that EVER that put in ANYWHERE NEAR that kind of effort?"

Michael Woods, the mayoral candidate in 2000, spent $99,000 (or more than twice as much as the make-believe mayor) on his run: https://warwickpost.com/avedisian-dispatches-another-opponent-defeats-corrente-by-nearly-2-1-margin/

So yet again, we witness the make-believe mayor post lies on this website and attempt to distract from them by name-calling and false accusations.

It will be a happy day for thousands of honest, taxpaying voters when they join us in rejecting the make-believe mayor again.

Crickee, I also noticed Corrente skipped right past the mention of his taxes, water/sewer being paid by someone else. In fact, it was paid by the landlord of Correntes current campaign office, which as you know he currently stays RENT FREE. Warwick voters will continue to see through his dishonesty, uninformed pandering and tax delinquency. Just as they did last campaign. The only coward in this race is Rick Corrente, the candidate who has to propose massive handouts just to earn 35% of the vote.

    Scal,

The only explanation that seems to address the make-believe mayor's pathetic behavior as a candidate is that he thinks he is responding in-kind to how he perceives others are treating him.

For example, he has willingly and repeatedly engaged in name-calling and impotent threats -- because that's how he interprets the many, many times that commenters have provided verifiable information about him and drawn logical and factual conclusions about his unfitness for office.

Put simply, he is unwilling or unable to see the stark difference between his own behavior and that of others who are informing our honest, taxpaying neighbors about the truth with the make-believe mayor.

Here, allow me to provide yet another example. [Hope you're sitting down...]

We already know, thanks to easily-verifiable public information, that he has not been the payer of record for the water and sewer bills on that same property: https://bit.ly/2NpHdMC [Enter 177 Grand View to see this information]

An entity called Cove View LLC is listed as the current sewer and water customer [not the make-believe mayor]. A check with the RI Secretary of State's business filing website shows the principal of this LLC to be William Masopust, DDS, of 187 Grand View Ave., Warwick: http://business.sos.ri.gov/CorpWeb/CorpSearch/CorpSummary.aspx?FEIN=001680171&SEARCH_TYPE=1

Interestingly, Cove View LLC was formed on Jan. 4, 2018, and is currently listed as paying the water and sewer bills in the amount of $363.98 [for bills dating back to June, 2017] on the make-believe mayor's residence in July 6 -- one week after I brought this information to light in the comments on this article: http://warwickonline.com/stories/city-fireworks-planned-for-july-3-at-oakland-beach,135078?#comments

    Oh, but wait...

You will no doubt recall that he has not been the payer of record for property taxes on his residence since 2014, and that he is now renting an office from the same person who paid those taxes in 2014 and 2015: https://www.citizenselfservice.com/MSSProd/citizens/RealEstate/Default.aspx?mode=new

By using the property tax website above, one can also see that Dr. Masopust is now listed as the owner of 177 Grand View Drive.

So, not only has the make-believe mayor convinced a neighbor to create an entirely new business entity to pay the city utilities on his residence, he has also gotten this same person to take over the property via tax payments.

That makes three different parties who have been responsible the taxes on his residence since 2014 while he has not. Objectively speaking, one might use the term "grifter" to describe a person who lives on a property and has their taxes and city utilities paid by other people; I wonder whether you think this may be an appropriate description.

We can certainly expect that the make- believe mayor will continue to try and ignore this verifiable proof of having others pay his property taxes and sewer/water fees, and will instead engage in more name-calling and conspiracy theories because that's how he thinks he's being treated.

You and I and thousands of honest, taxpaying voters know better. We know the make-believe mayor is trying to fool people and get away with not paying his fair share of taxes and city utilities. And we know, as you rightly point out, that his campaign will result in another overwhelming, humiliating loss.

Excellent work Crickee. Your dedication, as well as the Captains on this subject has has clearly put pressure on lying, tax delinquent, fake mayor. I think I speak for many when I say thank you for exposing this fraud. Enough so that its forced him to find SOMEONE ELSE to once again pay his basic financial obligations.

This is quite rhetorical but how can anyone reading this, still believe Rick Corrente is a serious candidate for mayor? This man can't even meet his own basic financial obligations yet, he wants to run an entire city? Give me a break! Imagine the audacity to call others "political insiders" when Corrente is literally skipping out on paying taxes by using relationships with others. That is the very definition of an insider! I don't know too many people who could have a neighbor pay their taxes or water/sewer bills.

This also leads to a more important question: what has been promised to these individuals who are paying Correntes taxes, water/sewer bills? What is to be gained by them by doing this? Is this why Corrente proposes putting a hold on permit fees? Is this why Corrente proposes "buy a house, get a check" so his friends can flip homes with a fast return, and get a rebate check?

Luckily we will not have to worry about such things, because voters will hand this "grifter" another overwhelming loss in the primary. Imagine the audacity running on the "tax burden", questioning others behavior while ones own financial house is an utter trainwreck. Shame on Rick Corrente and his lying, cowardice behavior. Yet another example of his hypocrisy and unfitness for office.

Let's not forget the 16 cases of litigation where he was the defendant in which he lost all.

I particularly was entertained in the case where his tenant sued him and won and then he made three $25 payments, ceased payment, and was taken back to court again and the Judgment was found against him, AGAIN.

Thanks, Thecaptain. We certainly remember how his poor handling of finances includes those lost court cases, which you have been so kind to provide.

And Scal, thanks for your kind compliments. I am sure the make-believe mayor will again suggest [whether here or on a future article] that I am a former employee of the city as a way to explain the information I have provided. As you know, this is nothing but a pathetic conspiracy theory of his, because in his mind, only people connected with current or former mayors would know these facts about him -- except, as you have seen, none of those facts required anything more than basic research into publicly available information that anyone could have done.

If I remember correctly Captain didn't you obtain some of these documents anonymously? Meaning someone was so concerned with Rick Correntes past history of litigation and inability to meet basic financial obligations, they sent you these documents knowing you'd go public with them to expose this fraud.

Its not that Rick Corrente couldn't get elected dog catcher, its that he's not even qualified to run for dog catcher. The biggest embarrassment of all will come this primary season. My advice to Mr Casella would be to rescind Mr Correntes invitation to the "signing party" as he is not a serious candidate for political office. My advice to anyone attending this event would be to tell Mr Corrente "No thank you" if asked to sign his papers. Finally, I'd say if any voter actually wants to sign Correntes papers, i suggest they ask him why he can't pay his own taxes? Why he fails to pay his own water/sewer bill and why is it he needs his friends to pay his bills/taxes for him since 2014? Send a message that Warwick is looking for real, serious candidates that can pay their own bills. Not a "grifter" that can't meet his own basic financial obligations. Rick Corrente is going to RAISE YOUR TAXES, when the truth is he can't even PAY HIS OWN.

Scal, I think you're correct. As I recall, Thecaptain has said that someone gave him those documents so that he could bring them to the public's attention.

You also raise a central question about the make-believe mayor's attempts to deny these and other facts about him, namely, just what does he expect will happen? Does he really think that he is changing anyone's mind about his tax delinquencies and repeated false statements? Does he expect commenters like you and Thecaptain [and Kammy, and WwkVoter, and others] to change our minds and suddenly decide that -- after all of the information provided about him -- he's actually correct and we're all wrong?

It actually wouldn't surprise me if this were the motivation behind his name-calling, whining about the use of screen names, repetition of his false claims, and continued use of a fake title that he neither earned nor deserves.

Then again, it might equally be true that he just feels entitled to run a political campaign on someone else's website [in much the same way that he has been squatting at his residence, as Thecaptain has rightly termed it, while others pay his taxes and water/sewer fees] and would rather spend his time losing arguments online than running a serious campaign.

Either way, as we know, his efforts will be proven futile again, and he will find himself the first candidate in a generation to lose elections to two different mayors.

I would also note the fake mayors lack of response to the facts laid out pretty clearly in your comments here, Crickee. When confronted with facts the tax delinquent, lying, fake mayor either attacks our use of screen names, or hides like a coward commenting on the next article. Is that the behavior of a serious Mayoral candidate? This type of behavior is below any elected office.

My comments against Corrente are used as a counterpoint to his constant free advertising on this website, as well as the outright lies he tells voters. He still doesn't have a clue how much any of his "plans" will cost, he's NOT going to cut your taxes and he's NOT going to cut city spending (which is around 3/4 of strictly pensions and benefits). Once you realize those facts, all that is left is a lying, failing, fraud candidate with a useless $2 slogan. Voters understand Warwick needs a Mayor that has their own financial house in order. Last time I checked, Joe Solomon didn't need 2 friends to bail him out, such as Rick Corrente has on more than 1 occasion. Imagine believing you can run an entire city, when you can't even pay your own sewer bill without switching it into someone elses name.

I don't fault anyone who struggles at some time in their lives. I do however fault somebody who OUTRIGHT LIES ABOUT IT, pretending their own fiscal house is in order, when there is a long history of litigation, unpaid bills and shady practices over a decade plus. Rick Corrente won't be able to call a friend to bailout City Hall from foreclosure He won't be able to default on the cities bills. Mayor is not an experimental job...voters will once again overwhelmingly show the fake mayor that.

The documents that were sent to me were copies of the actual court transcripts of his delinquent child support litigation. Enclosed within was a note describing how he was a scoundrel. As you are all aware, transcripts from family court litigation are not available to the general public, but only to the parties. Which tells me that clearly, the plaintiff in this litigation released the documents.

After Mayor Dumbness defaulted and squatted for 2 years, I decided to post the documents word for word from the court documents. Clearly, his testimony was devious.
