This is a musical that knows how to please everyone, with great songs, a nice upbeat plot, incredible special effects and some of the best choreography I’ve seen in a long time.

The term “family entertainment” usually turns out to be a way to promote a kid’s show that parents suffer through.
Not so with Disney’s highly entertaining Broadway musical “Aladdin,” which has hit Rhode Island with a storm.
Twenty trucks were needed to bring all the props, scenery, costumes and equipment to the Providence Performing Arts stage, where an energetic cast and crew of 75 people – including 20 dressers to change the incredible costumes quickly – sang, danced and thoroughly entertained the audience.
You know the story. You’ve probably read it to your kids and seen the animated movie more than once.
But you haven’t seen anything until you see this non-stop burst of energy, lights and color that includes 84 special effects, with everything from live pyrotechnics to a flying carpet that will amaze you in its realism.
Jonah Ho’okano as the title character and Kaenaon Alani Kekoa as the princess will grab your heartstrings and have you rooting for them, and Korie Lee Blossey as the Genie will thoroughly entertain you with his magical antics.
This is a musical that knows how to please everyone, with great songs, a nice upbeat plot, incredible special effects and some of the best choreography I’ve seen in a long time.
“Aladdin” is at PPAC through Nov. 10. Call 421-ARTS for reservations.
