Ada Rehan (Aubin) Gonya, 81, of Warwick, beloved wife of the belated Stanley Gonya.

Ada was born in Warwick, RI, and daughter to the late Caroline (Belanger) & Philip Aubin. Born on June 28, 1939, she was a 1957 graduate of Warwick Veterans High School. She loved drawing and painting and was voted most artistic in her graduating class. In her early years, being skilled at typing and shorthand, Ada spent several years as a legal secretary for a local lawyer. Mrs. Gonya was a beloved, devoted pre-school teacher. She began her teaching career at Humpty Dumpty preschool in 1970. Later, Ada became a master teacher at Buttonwoods School for Young Children from 1979-2012. Mrs. Gonya impacted many lives during her years as a teacher and mentor. Whether in the classroom, at her church, or with her own grandkids, Ada was always teaching.

Ada was a devoted, long standing member of Friendship Baptist Church. Much of her free time was spent in her church serving. She cleaned the church faithfully every Saturday for more than 35 years, she sang in the choir, was the church’s wedding coordinator, directed countless Sunday School plays, taught VBS, Sunday School and faithfully served visiting shut-ins. Known as a committed woman of prayer, her life was one that focused on the Lord Jesus. As a result, her family, her church family, her students, and her friends saw her as a true treasure and someone they could trust to faithfully pray for them. Anyone who knew Ada will take comfort in her great faith, knowing she placed her trust in the Lord and is now in heaven with the many that were dear to her and left this earth before her.

She was a devoted mother of Cheryl L. (Bart) Garrett, of Warwick, Michelle K. (Edward Jr. ) Pezzelli of Coventry, Caroline J.
