Downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it reached Rhode Island, Isaias delivered winds topping 60MPH and brief downpours Tuesday afternoon and evening. As of Wednesday afternoon more than 1,000 Warwick residents were still waiting to have power restored. The storm that brought down two trees on Wentworth Avenue, sparking a fire when they hit high voltage lines, was quickly brought under control by firefighters and city crews, Ward 5 Councilman Ed Ladouceur reported. Ladouceur praised the speedy work, but noted an area resident had been complaining about the trees for some time. He said the city needs to be proactive in addressing tree trimming to avoid outages during storms and that he would introduce a resolution for the creation of a commission to develop a plan. Pictured is the tree that came down on Church Avenue soon after it fell, narrowly missing a home, and the morning after. Below, thrill seekers walk the Oakland Beach jetty Tuesday afternoon.
