A legacy well told

To the Editor:
Thank you to the Warwick Beacon and to Marcus Prezioso for sharing the story about his great-grandfather’s service in World War II (“My great-grandfather’s hidden legacy revealed,” Aug. 23).
Prezioso made writing that look deceptively easy. I loved the contrast between his disarmingly innocent prose and the absolute evil in the images that his great-grandfather captured inside a concentration camp. The narrative device of letting the photos develop in chronological order was spot on, from storming the beach on D-Day to GIs as tourists to “five empty spaces in the photo album...where five photographs used to be,” the five gruesome photos later found tucked away in an envelope.
Besides being a compelling story well told, this is a story of significance because it serves the important function of remembrance. As Prezioso wrote of the graphic photos, “They are an everlasting reminder of the atrocities that happened to the Jews during the Holocaust.”
Never forget, and never again.
